Behavior Breakthroughs in Mobile Learning

SA-ASTD Members: Pre-Register on or before Monday, May 16 to receive the discounted rate of $20.

Here's your chance to see mobile learning in action! Roel Almendarez (Southwest Research Institute) and Alonzo Andrews (Special Workshops & Consulting) will present Behavior Breakthroughs, an innovative program that allows parents and caregivers to practice responding effectively to children exhibiting challenging behaviors. Deployable on a mobile device, Behavior Breakthroughs combines game-based learning strategies with Applied Behavioral Analysis principles in an immersive simulation. Our presenters will demonstrate how thousands of users are able to use the simulation to receive valuable feedback quickly and on their own schedule.

As a Senior Research Engineer, Mr. Almendarez develops sophisticated training software and  simulations for improving human performance. His experience includes migrating a simulation-building environment to run using the Unity 3D graphics engine, developing a learning management system for improved internal training of employees, and establishing a single-platform learning content management system and rapid authoring tool to support content development, workflow, metrics, and reporting involved in learning services.

Mr. Andrews has been involved in the treatment of challenging behavior associated with developmental disabilities, particularly autism, for nearly 30 years. He is committed to the idea that the basic principles of behavior analysis should be common knowledge, taught like Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmetic,… Reinforcement! He feels that his work as a consulting behavior analyst is akin to being a detective, sleuthing for the functions of challenging behavior.
